More Resilient Businesses Strengthen the Entire Region

For businesses, preparedness is largely about continuity: the ability to keep operations running when unexpected disruptions occur. A prolonged power outage, IT system failure, transport disruption, or interruption in deliveries from a key supplier can quickly affect both production and the ability to deliver.

Understanding critical dependencies and having a plan for how operations can continue during a disruption makes businesses more resilient. At the same time, the ability of businesses to keep operating is essential to society as a whole. Electricity, heating, food supplies, transport, healthcare, communications, and other vital services all depend on companies being able to continue delivering when conditions change.

These are the kinds of structures we now want to strengthen across our region,” says Anne Bergeld, Process Manager at Business Region Väst.

Strengthening Collaboration in Fyrbodal

Fyrbodals kommunalförbund is currently working to develop more structured and long-term collaboration between the private and public sectors. Business Region Väst has a coordinating role in this work, which builds on collaboration between Fyrbodal’s business development network and its preparedness and security network.

By combining the business development network’s close relationships with companies with the preparedness and security network’s expertise, we can create stronger conditions for effective collaboration with the business community.

The aim is both to strengthen companies’ ability to maintain essential deliveries and business-critical processes during disruptions and to contribute to more secure regional supply chains and a more resilient society.

Part of this work involves making preparedness issues more accessible to businesses. This includes practical guidance, greater awareness of critical dependencies and the ability to adapt, as well as clearer channels of communication between the private and public sectors.

From Business Continuity to Adaptability

In the longer term, preparedness is also about the ability to adapt. What production capacity exists in Fyrbodal – and how could it be used if new needs arise?

Fyrbodal has a strong industrial ecosystem with expertise in areas including manufacturing, food production, maritime systems, transport, and advanced manufacturing. This provides a strong foundation for increasing both business resilience and the region’s overall capacity to maintain essential supplies and services during disruptions.

Preparedness Week puts an extra spotlight on these issues, but building a resilient business community is a year-round effort. Companies that can continue to deliver, adapt, and respond when circumstances change strengthen both their own competitiveness and the resilience of the entire region.
